Does the State of Alaska provide housing?
No. The State does not provide housing for interns. If an agency has housing available, they will announce it in the recruitment bulletin.
Does the State sponsor international students?
At this time, the State of Alaska does not sponsor. All students who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply and are required to maintain employment eligibility.
If I apply for an internship and am not selected, can I re-apply for another internship?
Yes. Our recruitment system, Workplace Alaska, is a vacancy based recruitment system. To be considered for any available internship position, you must apply for all positions you may be interested in pursuing.
Can I get academic credit?
You may arrange for academic credit through your academic advisor. If necessary, the direct supervisor may serve as the contact person for your academic advisor.
How long will vacancies be open?
Most vacancies will be open a minimum of ten (10) calendar days. Check the recruitment bulletin for the deadline.
How long does it take to fill an internship?
It varies. The time period ranges from days to weeks.
Do I have to have a certain type of education to apply for an intern position?
Not necessarily. For entry level internships you will not need certain types of education to qualify. For College Interns III and IV, you will have to declare a major in a degree field directly related to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. For Graduate Interns you will have to have previously earned a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in a degree field relevant to the assigned duties. This information will be disclosed in the recruitment bulletin.
Do I have to submit any other documentation with my application package (Applicant Profile and Job Qualification Summary)?
It depends. Hiring managers may request additional information within the recruitment bulletin. Carefully read the recruitment bulletin as it may request that you provide additional documentation at time of application and/or at time of interview. For example, some managers may request transcripts and/or professional references.
