Job Description:

Department of Public Safety, Division of Alaska State Troopers, is currently recruiting to fill a Court Service Officer (CSO) position located in Fairbanks.  

The successful candidate will attend 3-weeks of initial training and participate in a 13-week Field Training and Evaluation Program in either Anchorage or Fairbanks.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Transporting inmates to and from correctional facilities within the State of Alaska for court appearances, medical care and other transportation centers, and out of state prisoner transport;
  • Maintaining the custody and security of inmates during transport, appointments, and their return to incarceration;
  • Providing both courtroom and court facility security to include response to alarms, disturbances and public safety incidents, and dignitary security for supreme court;
  • Serving process documents in accordance to instructions from the courts and agency standard operating procedures, to include subpoenas, summons, writs, domestic violence writs, orders, complaints and other legal notices.

Note:  Candidates will need to meet selection criteria, pass a physical fitness test and complete a background investigation.

All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of a psychological evaluation and medical examination.

When MQs state high school graduation or the equivalent any one of the following is acceptable:
Issuance of a high school diploma by a school district, including foreign high schools
Issuance of a high school diploma by a state based on successful completion of a G.E.D. test
Issuance of a high school diploma by the military based on satisfactory compeltion of a G.E.D. test
Acceptance in full standing by an accredited college
Completion of any basic education course of 480 class room hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week)
Six months of work experience performing duties closely related to the job class
Twelve months work experience involving some routine tasks related to the job in question.
Highest grade completed plus amount of work experience must total twelve years


Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduation or the equivalent.

Special Requirements: Not less than 21 years of age; possession of valid State of Alaska driver's license.

Successful completion of a physical agility test, and sound health, physical and mental condition as determined by a medical examiner to meet the demands of the job.

An extensive background investigation will be conducted.
