Job Description:

Does the idea of working as a law office assistant in a fast paced environment where you can showcase your clerical skills peak your interest?

If it does, then the Juneau District Attorney’s Office has a position waiting for you!

Key responsibilities include:

  • Typing and formatting a variety of legal documents;
  • Preparation of general correspondence;
  • Entering and retrieving information from an electronic database;
  • File maintenance;
  • General clerical duties.

We are looking for an incumbent with the following demonstrated strengths:

  • Thorough understanding of clerical functions and working knowledge of computer equipment and applications, i.e. Word, Excel, Internet;
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Openness and flexibility in your approach to developing new knowledge and skills;
  • Diplomacy when interacting with difficult or angry people;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentially of privileged communications and information, and to comply with privacy laws and regulations;
  • Ability to develop and to maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of people;
  • Ability to work calmly in a productive and accurate manner under frequent deadline pressure and changing priorities within a distracting, fast-paced work environment;
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to graphic discussions and evidence of violent acts.

Special Note:
“High School Equivalent” includes a G.E.D., or completion of any basic education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week), or six months of work experience performing duties related to the job class, or twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to the job in question or highest grade of school completed plus amount of work experience which totals 12 years.

Most positions require incumbents to be able to obtain a Notary Public Bond and to be able to pass a criminal background check to meet security requirements for using criminal record networks such as APSIN and NCIC/NLETS. If this requirement is present, it will be stated in the vacancy announcement.

Some positions are required to work regular overtime on weekends and/or holidays to provide support to the assigned duty attorney. If this requirement is present, it will be stated in the vacancy announcement and in the Position Description.


Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or the equivalent;
AND
Six months of experience performing work that required keyboarding skills, proficiency in the use of office information technology, and oral and written communication skills.
