Job Description:

The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Subsistence is recruiting for a Fish and Game Program Technician in its statewide Information Management unit based in Anchorage. We are looking for a motivated and dynamic individual to join our team. This position plays a critical support role within the Information Management unit, which provides research and analysis support to the Division. The position serves as the main public point-of-contact for the Division’s Southern Region office. Hours for this position will be between 8:30am and 5:00pm Monday through Friday.

Typical duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Completing lengthy and complex data entry projects.
  • Preparing and executing bulk mailings for surveys, publications, and other general communications.
  • Tracking and organizing survey forms and data entry progress.
  • Providing general office support.
  • Answering the telephone for Southern Region offices.
  • Responding to public inquiries and directly interacting with the general public as the Division’s primary point-of-contact.
  • Assisting with the preparation of payroll information and performing related data entry.
  • Verifying complete and consistent coding on returned survey forms.
  • Issuing subsistence permits from the Anchorage office.
  • Coordinating data entry work with interns.
  • Assisting the Research Analyst IV with budget preparation and tracking.

The successful candidate’s work history and education will demonstrate some or all of the following Desired Strengths (All of these strengths must be documented in your cover letter and applicant profile.   • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience and strong skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience and general familiarity with Microsoft Access, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat and PDF documents.
  • Experience with complex data entry assignments.
  • Experience tracking and filing thousands of documents.
  • Experience cross-checking technical documents to verify their accuracy, validity, and completeness.
  • Experience working both as a member of a team and independently.
  • Experience successfully meeting deadlines and handling time-sensitive materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Experience with multiple-task workloads and successful prioritization of competing responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

Additional desirable traits include:

  • Job experience within fish and wildlife management agencies or within academic or scientific environments.
  • Familiarity with fish and wildlife rules and regulations, especially those that relate to subsistence
  • Experience with accounting practices, systems, and software.

Special Note:
High school graduation "equivalent" includes any one of the following: a G.E.D.; acceptance in full standing by an accredited college; completion of any basic adult education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week); six months of work experience performing duties closely related to the job class; twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to the job; or highest grade of school completed plus an amount of any kind of work experience which totals 12 years.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or the equivalent;
AND
Two years of office clerical experience or two years of technical experience related to fish, wildlife or habitat resources;
AND
One year of specialized experience, which required the application of advanced level knowledge of clerical processes and procedures to determine office needs, prioritize and organize work, and determine the appropriate action to be taken. This required level of work is as an Administrative Clerk III with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution: College education from an accredited college may substitute for up to two years of the required experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience). There is no substitution for the one year specialized experience.
